Found out from my mechanic this week that the klunking was NOT an axle or a u-joint, it was one of the hubs not "snapping" back into place. Which means, for all functional purposes, when I thought I was in 4 LO during my most recent manouvres, I was in fact in 2 LO. Which explains that one scary moment in the wettest of the three quarries... there ain't no photos of that, because there was nowhere to get out that wasn't under two feet of water.
Looks like a coupla monkeys up there on that hill...
